Weekend Food Program

The Gulf Breeze Weekend Food Program was originally started by volunteers from Gulf Breeze civic organizations and churches in the spring semester of 2010 to address the problem of hunger and poor nutrition over the weekend for children who receive free lunches at our local schools.

The Gulf Breeze Rotary Club has been a major contributor to the Weekend Food Program through club donations and district grants.  Rotarians also help every week by ordering the food, picking up the food, bagging the food, dropping off the food at the schools, and managing the program.

Since starting with the Gulf Breeze schools, the program expanded to include all 11 schools in South Santa Rosa County between Gulf Breeze and Navarre.  In the fall of 2015 the Navarre Weekend Food Program began their own operations, with purchasing, bagging, and deliveries now occurring in both locations.  In the fall of 2018, the Gulf Breeze Weekend Food Program began supporting additional schools in Escambia County.

Every Friday participating students receive at least eight snack and meal items before going home for the weekend.  The food provided consists of things like instant oatmeal, grits, cereal, breakfast bars, applesauce, fruit cups, soup, canned tuna, spaghetti and meatballs, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, crackers, cookies and pudding cups.

Volunteers can assist bagging food on Monday nights at 4:45 at the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church.  We appreciate the extraordinary efforts of our local community to support families in need and are happy to be part of this coordinated solution.
