David Beard spoke about the 3 R’s: Repackage Refresh and Reflect. 

He said that the majority of workers want to do the right thing but sometimes make a bad decision.  Knowing what is right and doing it even if there is a price to pay.  Most of us see ourselves as ethical.  Sometimes however we  
Rationalize.  Rationalization is a little different –this is where we sometimes 
Justify decisions that we have made to maintain our ethical self-respect. 

Character Counts—6 Pillars of Character 
Trustworthy, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring & Citizenship. 
Why do we Trust?  Competence & Character intersected by Judgment 
Competence:  honesty, integrity fairness, caring, accountability, citizenship, keep promise, loyalty 

Character: Skill, knowledge , experience, & abilities.  These lead to Trust, Credibility, and Effective leadership. 

Mr. Beard says a born leaders is a fiction invented by a born followers.  Must earn leadership. 

Spoke on Colonel Welch senor leadership Air force used to have the pilots write a letter to their family before flying. Mr. Beard then discussed his experience of ejecting out of the T2 in 1978.  Spent 6 months in hospital.  Spoke of how wonderful it was going outside in the sunshine for the first time.  Felt the sun, heard the leaves and experienced his 3 children, 2, 4, &6 yrs of age playing and putting Magnolia blossom in his lap.    He says the worst thing that could ever happen to an individual is the lose respect from their children.  So he gives  Employees and mirror to put on their desk with a the question-
