Charlie Roose spoke on Camp Happy Sands.  Charlie said this is a ministry. Charlie and his wife have worked with youth for over 40 years.  His mom started Camp Happy Sands.   The camp is held at the National Seashore near Johnson Beach for 10 years.

The camp focuses on the social benefits these children need.  The kids are 6-11 years old that come to the camp.  They had 250 children at camp this year.  They recruit children from subsidized housing.  Their guardian is required to sign the permission slip for the children to come to camp.

The camp program teaches swimming and how to float as a life saving measure.  They take hikes to learn about wildlife.  The camp has guest speakers too.  They teach the kids how to fish.

The kids have snacks and lunch provided by different churches.  The cost for the lunches is $150 per day.  This feeds 30 – 45 children.

Board of Directors consist of a director and 4 volunteers

The Sponsorships consist of 18 – 30 churches.  6-7 Civic Organizations, Business and Individuals, Gulf Breeze Rotary, Fiesta Crew, Gulf Power, Walmart, Publix, McKesson Foundation and International Paper.

The camps budget is $30,712.00.  The majority of this is to pay the 6 employees.  They also have 4 vans to keep up.  The camp was incorporated as benefiting children in 1984

Camp Happy Sands welcomes donations.  You can contact Charlie or visit the website:  camphappysands.com
